RAIN Foundation

The RAIN Foundation is a result-oriented rainwater harvesting organisation that aims to supply vulnerable communities, women and children in particular, with a reliable source of clean water. RAIN's approach is demand driven, service oriented and participatory, where sustainability is sought through local capacity building, local management and ownership. RAIN improves access to safe drinking water for households, schools and clinics, by collecting and storing rainwater using simple and economical techniques. The RAIN Programme facilitates a global exchange of knowledge and innovation on rainwater harvesting between partner organisations and other interested actors.

RAIN is active in Nepal, Burkino Faso, Mali, Senegal and Ethiopia and plans to expand its programme in Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa in the near future. Since programme initiation in 2003, RAIN has constructed a total of 1,800,000 litres of rainwater harvesting capacity to benefit more than 12,000 people. RAIN intends to broaden its approach and the water harvesting techniques it applies to increase water quantity, supporting multiple uses and enhanced livelihoods.
